Conti Formentini Sauvignon Blanc

Conti Formentini Sauvignon Blanc

This Sauvignon Blanc from the Collio Goriziano region of northeastern Italy is a great break from what is usually found in this varietal.  Instead of a blast of citrus, lemon zest or lime this beauty is soft, lower in acidity and has flavors of peach and pear.  Its nose is somewhat neutral.  The minerality comes through, but the fruit is […]

Conti Formentini Pinot Grigio

Conti Formentini Pinot Grigio

Coming from the far northwestern region of Italy’s Collio Goriziano this Pinot Grigio has more depth of aroma and flavor than most we’ve tried recently.  The nose has pronounced minerality with light hints of pitted fruits and lychee.  The aromas transfer to the palate with pear being a bit more dominant.  Refreshing yet with body.

Another win for the Colonel!

Another win for the Colonel!

If you haven’t tried this new  line extension from E. H. Taylor you are missing out. It has a sweet smoky nose.  Big caramel corn and a hint of butterscotch on the mid palate. The finish is soft with spices and a little tobacco. If they didn’t put it on the bottle you would never  know it was 100 proof. […]

W L Weller Antique Bourbon

W L Weller Antique Bourbon

We made our annual pilgrimage to the Buffalo Trace Distillery where we bought a barrel of W L Weller Antique bourbon.  This is usually a product of several barrels blended to the master distiller’s specifications.  What sets this particular purchase of ours apart is that the Weller Antique on our shelves is from a single barrel.  Even though this is […]

Cellars Nikiforou Moschofilero

Cellars Nikiforou Moschofilero

A classic white wine from the Peloponnese Peninsula of Greece.  Made primarily from Moschofilero and Roditis it has aromas of light lemon/lime zest, dry honey and a slightly dusky Muscat note.  On the palate the flavors are subtle with bright acidity and minerality.  A great pairing with seafoods, chicken with lemon sauce, light cheeses and salads.

San Fereolo Coste Di Riavolo

San Fereolo Coste Di Riavolo

Most people assume that Riesling and Gewurtztraminer have to be sweet.  Wrong!  This beauty from Northern Italy’s Piedmont region is very dry.  Two years ageing in the barrel on its lees and another year in the bottle before release give it a natural amber color and depth of flavor.  Its style is very much like the Alsace.  The nose has […]

Amestoi Txakolina

Amestoi Txakolina

Hailing from the Basque region of Northern Spain this wine is made from Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Beltza.  That’s right, not exactly household words.  The wine has a light frizzante sparkle, dry minerality and floral aromas.  It comes from the coast and pairs well with seafood.  Figures.
