We made our annual pilgrimage to the Buffalo Trace Distillery where we bought a barrel of W L Weller Antique bourbon. This is usually a product of several barrels blended to the master distiller’s specifications. What sets this particular purchase of ours apart is that the Weller Antique on our shelves is from a single barrel. Even though this is a wheated bourbon there is significant pepper on the nose with hints of cloves, cinnamon, caramel, vanilla and oak. Those aromas carry over to the palate. It starts off a little sweet with some heat and finishes dry. At around $20 it is a tremendous value.
